This search application is built using the DocFetcher Java application.  

A Java Runtime Environment (JRE), is required to run this application on a Mac with the OS X operating system.

That last version of Java for Mac OS X that the application is compatible with is version 8u251.   

If you have a later version of Java installed you should first uninstall Java.  To uninstall Java go to the following site: 

https://www.java.com/en/download/uninstalltool.jsp

To install the compatible version of Java follow these steps:

1. Download the install file:  www.ctrussell.us/files/jdk_os_x.dmg

2. Double click the jdk_os_x.dmg file in your download folder.

3. Double click the installation package and follow the prompts to complete the installation.


How to start DocFetcher
========================================
1. Move the tst_os_x folder to your Applications folder
2. Open the tst_os_x folder and double click the docfetcher.app file.
3. The first time you will get a security prompt telling you the file cannot be opened.
4. Go to System Preferences and click Security & Privacy
5. Click the General tab if is is not highlighted by default
6. In the "Allow apps download from" area you will see a message about docfetcher.  Select the option to open the application.  

If the system does not remember your choice the next time you start the docfetcher application you will need to repeat steps 4-6 and make sure you click the lock on the General tab to unlock and save your changes. Then click the lock again to lock the system from saving changes.


To simplify starting docfetcher, start the application and then right click the docfetcher application icon in the application Dock and choose the option "Keep in dock".

Index the ctrussell files
=================================
The installation file does not come with prebuilt index of the ctrussell files.  You will need to follow this one time procedure.

1. Start docfetcher

2. Right Click in the "Search Scope" pane, hover over "Create Index From" and then left click the "Folder" option that displays. Navigate to the tst_os_x folder in you Applications folder and and select the the ctrussell folder.  Click "Ok" and on the next screen click "Run". Once the index has been created it will appear in the "Search Scope" pane as ctrussell.
